Welcome to Tuckahoe Middle School

TMS Weekly Newsletter

September 8, 2017

Dear Tuckahoe Middle School Parents and Guardians,

We have had a wonderful week at TMS.  Our sixth graders are settling in nicely.  I have noticed that most have become accustomed to operating their lockers, are becoming comfortable navigating the building and have enjoyed reconnecting with friends.  Our seventh and eighth graders have hit the ground running, and are working diligently in their new classes.

Today, I held grade-level assemblies with all students in the middle school.  The purpose of the meetings was to communicate expectations around work-ethic and behavior.  We outlined many aspects of our Student Code of Conduct (a summary can be found HERE) and spoke at length about treating classmates with dignity and respect.  We also described our cell phone policy which states that cell phones should be stored securely in student lockers.  Cell phones should not be used in hallways or classrooms.  Cell phones will be permitted during lunch only.

An additional note about lunch - we are paying close attention to the timing and seating in the cafeteria, and may make a few adjustments in the near future.

This weekend, I would appreciate if you would take a few minutes to talk to your child about the Code of Conduct and the assemblies that were held today.   An extensive description of building policies can be found at the front of the student planner.

Also, please ensure that your Chromebook Agreement and Responsible Use Policy have been completed and handed in to my office.  We plan to distribute chromebooks on Monday, but only to students who have returned these forms.  Additional copies can be found on the Parent Resources section of the TMS website.

Please remember that back to school night is Tuesday, September 26 from 7:00 to 9:00.  This will be a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and to get a feel for a typical middle school day.  I hope to see you there.

Sincerely,

Mark Barnett
